Final Report

Located in Washington, D.C., the LiUNA Headquarters Expansion Building is a steel-framed structure designed as additional office space for LiUNA, the Laborer's International Union of North America.  The structural redesign completed for senior thesis investigated using a heavy timber structural system with moment frames for lateral force resistance.  As tall wood becomes an increasingly popular architectural design topic, challenges related to the design and construction of these buildings will require attention and investigation.  The completed thesis goes beyond the associated structural challenges of tall wood to further investigate issues related to mechanical and passive fire protection, construction schedule, constructability, and software design packages.
